“… the Lord is gracious and compassionate. He provides food for those who fear him; he remembers his covenant forever.” Psalm 111:5
Welcome to Covenant Community Garden on the property of Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church in southern Wake County! We are a community of friends who seek to be in covenant relationship with each other and with all of creation. We would be blessed by your presence among us. Come see what’s growin’ on!
In gratitude for the good gifts of the earth, we desire to live simply and mindfully, and to have our lives shaped by generosity, hospitality, abundance, and joyful table fellowship. As we plant squash and tomatoes, spinach and carrots, we also sow seeds of lasting friendship. When we tend our growing crops, we are mindful of the goodness that makes our lives possible.
Everyone is welcome to participate in the garden, regardless of your “green thumb” (or lack of one) or your level of experience. One of the primary goals of this ministry is to involve our children in gardening, so they may experience God’s creation, learn where their food comes from, develop a sense of stewardship of the land, and learn that vegetables really do taste good. We also provide fresh, organically grown produce to our garden member families, the Fuquay-Varina Emergency Food Pantry and our Main Street Kitchen meal delivery outreach.
To participate in the garden, you will pay a $10 annual fee per family, which includes a lidded compost bucket for your home use. In addition, each member family agrees to work one hour a week or 4 hours a month in the garden. The registration form is below!
If you have questions, ideas to share, or would just like more information, please contact Joy Brown at 919-880-7413 or email Joy. Ready to join? Register using the form below!
It is estimated that 25% of our household waste can actually be composted, so bringing your vegetable scraps to the garden is an excellent way to reduce our community’s impact on landfills. When the leaves fall, rather than put them out at the curb or burn them, you will be able to bring them to church to be composted. An offering that costs you nothing except a trip to church will do wonders to improve the soil of the garden!
Don’t forget to bring your compost when you come to the garden. Please follow the compost instructions to ensure a safe and healthy garden for everyone.
